This is what public seating should look like
I recently traveled to the UK and took hundreds of photos of successful (and not) things in cities. I’ll post them gradually over time, but for now, here’s an example of some good public seating in Glasgow:
Now, this seating is not necessarily perfect and I’m sure a little brainstorming could produce some great ways to improve it.
But it’s also pretty good. For one thing, I like how the two benches face each other; it makes them useful for engaging people in conversation, as these users are doing. It’s also in a busy pedestrian area, but not directly in the path of the walkers. That means there are many potential users, but the benches aren’t getting in anyone’s way.
