Green transit in a red state

Have you ever wondered how a small, very conservative state like Utah got its increasingly awesome transit system?

Luckily, DC Streetblog published a post this week telling the story.

The post explains that Envision Utah began in the 1990s and developed a strategy that tapped into the values of the people the system would eventually serve.

The values they settled on were to have a city that was “beautiful, prosperous and neighborly.”

The post is a quick and fascinating read. It’s also a good reminder of how relatively impressive the transit system is along the Wasatch Front and of how important intelligent strategy is for bringing about progress.
